Blasting – VDL Paint Technology

Blasting is an effective and efficient method for pre-treating various metal surfaces. As the blasting process is ideal for removing various impurities, the adhesion between the surface treatment to be applied and the product is significantly improved. Blasting removes old paint layers, rust and any mill scale, laser scale and oxides.

VDL Laktechniek uses various blasting methods for materials such as cast iron and steel components. During our blasting process, the relevant products are fed into the shot-blasting machine via an automated transport system, after which they are intensively blasted with steel shot by means of blast wheels.

Shot blasting at VDL Laktechniek

The speed at which the product is transported, combined with the rotational speed of the blast wheels, determines the intensity of the blasting process. This removes an oxide layer or an old coating, resulting in a clean surface.
Blasting at VDL Laktechniek is the ideal way to pre-treat large components as well. In our own Heavy Duty Paintshop, we carry out various surface treatments for products with maximum dimensions of 15 x 1.8 x 3.3 metres.
This means that both small and large products can be treated.

After the blasting process, the products are often followed by a suitable powder coating or wet-painting treatment.
