VDL Laktechniek’s Heavy Duty paint shop is an advanced department specifically equipped to treat large components. Our clients from the Agriculture, Railway and Passenger Transport sectors, among others, supply products or assemblies of considerable size that are later used in highly demanding environments, both chemically and mechanically. Because VDL Laktechniek can treat these products using blasting and powder coating or wet painting, we are able to provide a robust surface treatment that meets the most critical norms and standards. This department also enables VDL Laktechniek to provide suitable treatment for other sectors, such as Big Machinery, Mining, Heavy Transport and Offshore components.
Equipped with a twin 5-ton overhead crane, we can handle products directly from a transport trailer, allowing them to continue their journey through VDL Laktechniek.
The dimensions that VDL Laktechniek can handle here are:
Length: 15 metres
Width: 1.8 metres
Height: 3.3 metres
Large products are often assemblies of materials with varying thicknesses, combined with integrated threaded holes, fits, bushes, and so on.
This also immediately makes it more complex to apply the correct pre-treatment. The surface must be pre-treated so that the adhesion between the surface and the first coat meets the required standard.
Blasting is often a suitable pre-treatment in this case, as the assemblies generally consist of standardised materials that still have mill scale, laser scale or oxides present.
To make the complete picture financially attractive, it is important that the parts are transported internally as little as possible while “empty”. That is why our Heavy Duty paintshop is organised according to the “lean” principle.
